MASSIMO ALBA‘S CORDUROY SHOWS A SOFTER SIDE FOR DANIEL CRAIG’S JAMES BOND.

The reassuring comfort of corduroy is not something you would naturally associate with 007 agent James Bond, but that is exactly what you’ll see Daniel Craig’s character wearing, when he appears in his fifth and final outing in No Time To Die.

So has the usually sharp suited steely agent gone soft on his tailoring choices? Well partly, thanks to Italian designer Massimo Alba. The two button sand coloured corduroy appears in the opening scene. Bond certainly puts the casual suit (teamed with chambray shirt & dark tie) through its paces, as he whips through the southern Italian town of Matera’s narrow streets in a gripping car chase.

The on screen collaboration came about through pure serendipity, after Craig had bought a pair of Alba’s corduroy trousers for his own wardrobe. The 59-year-old designer Massimo Alba was delighted with the personal endorsement of his brand, which incidentally has only been going as for as long the 14 years Craig has been playing Bond. It still came as a complete surprise when he received an email from the film’s Head of Costume buyer at Pinewood Studios that they wanted pieces from the collection for Craig’s character James Bond. They ordered 30 of the Sloop suit, an olive green duster raincoat and the grey ‘aluminum’corduroy trousers.

Alba is a designer that who very much follows his own path when it comes to creating his very wearable and laid back collections, a sartorial attitude that feels fitting for Craig’s final film as 007. This instinctive approach to designing and its lack of rigidity seems to have appealed to Daniel Craig’s own sense of relaxed styling. Having worked with the actor while promoting his last Bond film, Spectre, it was clear he knows his onions when it comes to style; testament to the symbiotic relationship Craig and Bond have had over the last decade.

Amongst the many arguably stylish scenes in No Time To Die, these off duty corduroy pieces seem a fitting tribute for this agent, fresh out of retirement for one last assignment.
